How To Choose Metal Cutting Tools? – UKO Blog

Metal cutting tools can be divided into turning tools (external circle, inner hole, thread, cutting tools, etc.) according to the cutting process; drilling tools (including drills, reamers, taps, etc.); boring tools; milling tools, etc. The correct choice of cutting tools is an important part of the machining process. It not only affects the machining efficiency of the machine tool, but also directly affects the machining quality. The selection principle of the tool is as follows:

  • Choose a large cross-sectional dimension of the tool holder as much as possible, and a shorter length dimension increases the strength and rigidity of the tool and reduces the tool vibration;
  • Choose a larger entering angle (greater than 75, close to 90°); use negative edge inclination tools for rough machining, and positive edge inclination tools for finishing;
  • Use uncoated blades and small tool tip arc radius during finishing;
  • Choose standardized and serialized tools as much as possible;
  • Choose the correct, quick clamping tool holder.
