Connections of High Strength Bolts

The difference between friction type and compression type connections of high strength bolts:
High-strength bolt connection can be divided into two types: high-strength bolt friction connection and high-strength bolt compression connection according to different design and stress requirements when shearing force is applied. The essential difference between the two types is that the ultimate state is different, though. However, it is

The same kind of bolt, but in the calculation method, requirements, scope of application and so on are very different. In shear design, the maximum possible friction force provided by the bolt tightening force between the external shear force and the contact surface of the plate is taken as the limit state, that is, to ensure that the internal and external shear force of the connection does not exceed the maximum friction force during the whole service period. There will be no relative slip deformation (the original void between the screw and the hole wall is always maintained), and the connecting plate will be loaded according to the overall elasticity. In shear design, the external shear force is allowed to exceed the maximum friction force in high-strength bolted confined connections. At this time, the relative slip deformation occurs between the connecting plates until the bolt contacts the hole wall. Thereafter, the connection depends on the shear of the bolt body, the pressure of the hole wall and the friction force between the contact surfaces of the plate. Finally, the shear limit of the connection is the shear of the rod body or the failure of the hole wall under pressure. Status. In short, friction type high strength bolts and compression type high strength bolts are actually the same kind of bolts, but whether the design considers slip or not. Friction-type high-strength bolts can never slide, bolts do not withstand shear force, once sliding, the design is considered to be in a state of failure, more mature in technology; compression-type high-strength bolts can slide, bolts also withstand shear force, and ultimately the failure is equivalent to that of ordinary bolts (bolt shear or steel plate compression).
